The Anti-Scam Education and Research Programme team would like to draw your attention to recent scam cases related to insurance purchase / investment opportunities and insurance fee deduction.
A Mainland student studying in HK received a call from a scammer pretending to be an insurance agent. The student was interested in purchasing the insurance product and as a result suffered losses amounting to HK$1.6 million.
A nurse in HK also received messages from a scammer pretending to be an insurance company. The nurse was worried that additional fees would be deducted from her insurance plan and as a result suffered losses amounting to HK$2 million.
We would therefore like to remind you to stay alert of any potential scam cases, especially related to insurance products. If you are in any doubt, please call the Police’s anti-deception hotline: 18222, or inform your RC warden or your teacher immediately.
